Grand street neighborhood initiative

As part of our Grand Street Neighborhood Initiative to create a vibrant commercial district and improve our community’s quality of life, we provide key services and host various programs designed to take care of our neighborhood. These services and programs aim to create a welcoming environment for shoppers and residents. Our programs fall into 5 major categories central to our initiative.

Cleaning

Our street sweeping team works 7 days a week to keep Grand Street gorgeous through sun, rain, and snow. Last year, we spent 2,800+ hours sweeping up 9,500+ bags of litter, removing 400+ incidents of graffiti, and monitoring streetscape conditions as part of our core mission to ensure a beautiful commercial corridor.

Stories

Through our newsletter, social media, and blog, we share the news happening in our neighborhood to a network of 5,000+ followers. We focus on promoting our small businesses in order to create connections between our retail community and local residents.

Arts

We invest in public art murals on building facades from Brooklyn artists, collaborate with local artists on community projects and produce short films documenting those works and our neighborhood. Through our efforts, we have installed 15 new murals on Grand Street in just the past 3 years.

Greening

With funding from our Council Member and partnership with The Horticultural Society of New York we plant Brooklyn native perennials inside our tree beds throughout the district to beautify our neighborhood. We have also tree guards on our 80+ tree pits to protect those plantings and keep our trees safe and air clean.

EVENTS

We host annual events such as Wine and Dine, Small Business Saturday, and street fairs to provide opportunities for residents to try new businesses and engage with our district in new and fun ways. We also host an annual spring cleanup event and decorate Grand Street with lights for the holiday season.
